Middle Palisade Guide Climb
Middle Palisade 14,019 ft.
Regular Route, 3rd and 4th Class
2 days/ 1 night
Cost: Private Custom Rates
Middle Palisade is the 12th highest peak in California and sits along the Palisade Crest south of Norman Clyde Peak and Mt. Sill. The remoteness of this peak means that it is one of the least often climbed of the California 14ers. Despite the few number of climbers it has one of the best 3rd and 4th class routes in the Sierra.
A private-guided climb of the Middle Palisade can be done as a two day or three-day trip. The approach starts from South Fork of Big Pine Creek, and after a few miles breaks off the trail and heads cross country up to the base of the Middle Palisade Glacier.
The climb itself heads up the old glacier up to the base of the mountain. After a short pitch up loose rock the route opens up on to a wide open face. The route is mostly 3rd class with a sections of 4th class towards the top. The final step to the summit reveals a small block with spectacular views across the crest into Sequoia and Kings National Park.
