SWS Mountain Guides has been operating in California since 1981. Our trips take us throughout California from Mt. Shasta to Mt. Whitney in the Eastern Sierra Nevada. We also offer opportunities to climb outside the US with courses and climbs to South America, Russia, Mexico, and Nepal.

Our guiding philosophy is very hands on and emphasizes the safety and skill development aspect of our guiding profession and as such we fully expect and allow our guides to be able to make important trip decisions while on the trip. In other words we want our guides to have the flexibility to make trip itinerary changes while up in the mountains while still staying within the flexible guidelines set forth by SWS Mountain Guides.

Being a professional mountain guide is an incredibly rewarding and challenging job. You will be amazed at what you will learn not just about other people, but about yourself as well. Being a guide requires a passion for meeting new people, for the mountains where we work, and for sharing your knowledge and passion with others.

All SWS guides must possess an extremely high level of mountaineering/climbing skills, be very patient and understanding, and be in very good physical condition.
