Palisade Sierra Nevada CampClimbing in the most spectacular area of the Sierra Nevada, with the highest concentration of 14,000 ft. Mountains in the Sierra Range is the experience of a lifetime. Our backdrop for SWS Mountain Guides comprehensive course in the basics of alpine mountaineering. Learn how to use a variety of tools and techniques for climbing rock, ice and snow as well as combining skills for mixed alpine routes. Topics include route planning and preparation, navigation, route finding, objective hazards evaluation, staying healthy and basic mountain medicine. An introduction to the techniques used in Sierra alpine mountaineering. Instruction in rock climbing techniques, anchor systems, belaying as well as descending including rappelling. Ice and Snow instruction including the use of ice ax self-arrest, crampon technique, plus snow anchors and roped team travel. Finally, we will put your skills to the test by ascending a 13,000 ft or 14,000 ft. Peak in the Palisades via a 3rd to a 4th class route.

Palisade Mountaineering Camp II – Intermediate to Advanced

5 days / 4 nights / Cost: $1,375.00

Sierra Nevada Palisades Mountain Camp IIA continuation of our Palisade Mountain Camp I featuring a full review of basic mountaineering techniques before moving on to intermediate to advanced mountaineering techniques including instruction on protection placement, route finding, route selection, planning for the climb, alpine rock climbing, ice/snow climbing, crampon use, snow & ice hardware, protection systems, and multi-pitch climbing. You will then test your skills on a 4th aand5th class route on one or two of the 14,000 ft. peaks of the Palisade group listed below.
Peak climbs options include:
Depending on group skill and route conditions:

- North Palisade – 14,242 ft.

- Mt. Sill – 14,153 ft.

- Thunderbolt Peak – 14,003 ft.

- Polemonium Peak  -14,080 ft.
