Timothy Keating - CEO
Tim has been guiding and operating SWS Mountain Guides for over 30 years now. He has over 100+ summits on Mt. Shasta and over 100+ on Mt. Whitney. As an avid backcountry skier, he has logged countless ski ascents on Mt. Shasta, Mt Lassen and several Trans Sierra Ski crossings as well various climbing and skiing routes in the High Sierras. Tim's high altitude experience includes ascents and international expeditions in Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Tanzania, and Russia. Tim is a graduate of a 10-day AMGA Alpine Guides Course, AMGA Certified Top Rope Site Manager, Professional Climbing Guides Institute Certified Top Rope Guide , Wilderness First Responder, Certified Avalanche Instructor & Professional Member of the American Avalanche Association, a Level III Avalanche Training Certification, Graduate from the National Avalanche School, Leave Not Trace Certified Trainer , Membership in the American Alpine Club since 1997, Access Fund Member. Tim has BA in Geography from Humboldt St. University, speaks Spanish, is married to Emily and they have a 12 year old son, Joshua
 
David Cressman - COO
Dave is a veteran SWS guide, having over 70 summits on Mt. Shasta to his name. Dave has high altitude experience and International expeditions in Ecuador, Bolivia, Russia and Argentina. Dave's true passion, however, is climbing in the Palisades on mixed routes. A little known fact about Dave, is that he is a fantastic backcountry chef, and can cook a mean couscous burrito.Dave is a graduate of the 10-day AMGA guide courses in alpine climbing, AMGA Top Rope Site Manager, holds a Wilderness First Responder (WFR), and he is a graduate of the National Avalanche School as well as Avalanche Level I & Level II. He graduated from Humboldt University with B.S. Degrees in Biology, Zoology, and Oceanography. Dave lives in Mt. Shasta with his wife Allania who is fluent in Spanish and conducts our Machu Picchu treks and rainforest adventures in Peru. They have three children, Jarrod, Mariah, and Jesse and his dog Bailey.
 
James Brown - CMO
Originally a paramedic from Houston Texas, James moved to the mountains of Wyoming and Utah to live his passion. Coming into his 8th year guiding for SWS he has worked his way up from assistant guide to Senior Guide, CMO and Partner in SWS Mountain Guides. JB has climbed or guided in almost every major range in the US and on four continents. He guides for SWS in the Cascades, Eastern Sierra, and Internationally. In addition to his guiding career JB is also an avid backcountry skier and ski mountaineer. In the winter if you can't find him skiing big mountain lines you can find him teaching at a handful of ski resorts in the Rocky Mountains. He has attained Professional Ski Instructors Association (PSIA) Alpine Instructor level II as well as Certified Backcountry Instructor, Avalanche Level I & Level II, and Level III , Leave No Trace Certifications, Graduate of the AMGA Rock Climbing Instructors Course. He speaks some spanish and nepali. He is currently pursuing the coveted international IFMGA certification. JBs favorite trip to guide is Island Peak, Nepal
 
Neil Woodruff - Senior Alpine Guide
Neil Woodruff began his outdoor career as a child learning North American plants and animals from his family members whose background included biology, botany, farmers,hunters, and gun makers. Since then he has expanded his North American knowledge as well as studying African and South American ecosystems.Neil currently divides his year between California and Wyoming. In California Neil primarily works for SWS Mountain Guides where he guides: trekking and backpacking,alpine climbs, rock, survival courses, ski/snowboard mountaineering, and winter climbs. He currently winters in Jackson, WY where he teaches snowboarding and skiing for Jackson Hole Ski Area, also serving as a staff trainer. Neil has also worked for various California and East Coast Ski Resorts, as well as internationally in Portillo, Chile. Since 2007 he has served as a clinician for PSIA-w specializing in adaptive sports. Most recently Neil moonlighted as a consultant and instructor with the Foundacion Deporte y Desafio in the first Spanish accreditation of Adaptive Snowboard Instructors, an event held in preparation for the 2015 Universiada de Invierno (Winter World Student Games) in Granada. In his spare time Neil has developed sport, aid, and traditional climbing routes in California from Mt. Shasta to Lone Pine as well as trekking routes in Kenya. Neil certifications include: AASI Level III Snowboard instructor, PSIA Level III Adaptive Instructor (one of four persons to receive this certification on a snowboard), PSIA Level I Alpine Ski Instructor, and Children's Specialist Level II. Neil also possess Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Leave No Trace, and AAA Avalanche II certifications.
 
Scott Becker - Senior Alpine Guide
Scott grew up rafting, skiing and climbing in Oregon and is now in this seventh year of guiding for SWS. Since his first climbing experience on Mt. Hood he continues to climb peaks of the Cascades and Sierra Nevada, big walls in Yosemite Valley and other major climbing areas and mountain ranges of the west. Recently Scott summited Mt. Mckinley solo in 12 hours from his high camp at 14,000ft. Scott studied Journalism at Southern Oregon University and also certifications for WFR, Avalacnhe II, and is a Leave No Trace Instructor. He lives with his wife in Medford Oregon. Favorite Trip is the Hotlum Glacier because he loves the views of the mountains of Southern Oregon
 
Tim Peterson - Senior Alpine Guide
Born and raised in Western Massachusetts, Tim first developed an affinity with the outdoors at an early age, exploring the cow pastures around his childhood home. It wasn’t until after college that he discovered the field of teaching and leading in the outdoors. He spent several summers teaching adventure programs for teenagers, while spending the rest of the year as a high school teacher in a travelling boarding school. From China to Ireland, Western Alaska to Bolivia, Tim has travelled extensively with teenagers, for the purpose of discovering the world through adventure. During this period, Tim was a member of the Shasta Country Search and Rescue Mountain team, where he refined his technical skills. Since leaving Northern California, Tim landed in Bend, Oregon and has been involved in higher education since 2004. Currently he is the coordinator of Central Oregon Community College’s Outdoor Leadership program, which prepares students to teach and lead outdoor adventure programs. In his free time, Tim has been an avid climber, skier, and paddler. Personal adventures are now focused on sharing the outdoors with his young son. This includes mastering the Green and Blue slopes at Mt. Bachelor, every 5.5 climb at Smith Rock, and paddling canoe along flat water. Prescott College, Prescott, AZ. January 2007. Jesse Samuels - Senior Alpine Guide
Raised in Northern California, his mountaineering career began in the Eastern Sierra summiting numerous peaks in Yosemite as well as a few ascents of Mount Whitney. After receiving his BA in Communication Design from Chico State University. Jesse continued his climbing career, summiting Mount Rainier, Pico del Orizaba in Mexico and several high altitude peaks in Peru. Jesse has numerous ascents of Mount Shasta and has been guiding with SWS for the past 5 years. Jesse has attained his Avalanche Level I and Leave No Trace Instructor Certifications, and is a Wilderness First Responder. Jessie currently lives in Chico, Ca.
 
Tim Mincey - Lead Alpine Guide
A native of Chicago, Tim grew up barely knowing that mountains existed, much less that you could climb or ski them for fun. But as an engineering student at Stanford, he managed to fall in love with snowboarding, and after college decided to move to Tahoe to snowboard full-time as an instructor at Heavenly. Once in Tahoe, Tim couldn’t help but dive into backcountry snowboarding, rock climbing, and splitboard mountaineering. He is perpetually trying to make up for his late start in the mountains by climbing and snowboarding as much as possible across the West Coast, from Joshua Tree to the North Cascades. Tim started guiding for SWS in 2011 and his certifications include the following: AASI Level II Snowboard Instructor, Wilderness First Responder, AIARE Level II Avalanche, Certificate in Wilderness Education from Lake Tahoe Community College. His favorite place to climb is currently the High Sierra.
 
Crit Conrad - Alpine Guide
Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, Crit fell in love with the mountains of Colorado when he was in high school. Since that time Crit has climbed, backpacked and mountain biked the various ranges in the western states. He holds WFR and Leave No Trace Trainer Certifications
 
Casey Harden - Alpine Guide
Casey is from Southwest Virgina and is a graduated from Emory and Henry College with a BS in Accounting. During her college specialized in rock climbing with the Outdoor Leadership Program. Today she lives in Bend Oregon honing her skills as a rock climber at Smith Rocks and guiding the Southern Cascades. Don't let her quite demeanor fool you she is a powerful rock climber and an inspiring mountain guide.
 
Brian Shermeta - Alpine Guide
Brian grew up in the northeast and has always had a passion for the outdoors. He completed an intensive year long Outdoor Leadership Program at Greenfield Community College in Massachusetts through which he gained instructor certification in rock-climbing, whitewater canoeing, backcountry travel, and other disciplines. Through that same program he also gained high altitude mountaineering experience summiting peaks in Ecuador. After college, Brian spent a summer interning with the Climbing Rangers on Mt. Rainier and then settled in Central Oregon. Brian has his Wilderness EMT and is a Leave No Trace trainer. When he is not leading expeditions with SWS Mountaineering, he teaches rock climbing for Smith Rock Climbing Guides and spends his winter on Mt. Bachelor. Brian loves to guide Aalanche Gulch, Mt Shasta.
 
Rodney Sofich - Alpine Guide
Rodney is an Oregon native. Rodney has been guiding throughout the Pacific Northwest since 2003 with a diverse outdoor experience. Within that time period he found time to be a seasonal Wilderness and Climbing Ranger for the Mt. Hood National Forest. When Rodney is not guiding he is either working for Reed College as an outdoor instructor teaching leadership skills and outdoor PE classes, co-instructing avalanche courses with MountainSavvy, or filling in hours at the Mountainshop, Portland, Oregon's oldest outdoor store. Rodney's credentials include: AMasters degree from Portland State University in Public Administration of Natural Resources, Avalanche III, LNT Master Educator, and is an AMGA Certified Rock Instructor.
 
Dr. Emily Sagalyn MD - SWS Consulting Physician
Emily Sagalyn MD SWS Mountain Guides Consulting Physican Dr. Emily Sagalyn MD is currently a Resident in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. She graduated with her Medical Degree from the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA., She also holds a B.A. from Columbia University in New York, NY. She has Wilderness Medicial Experience in the Kunde Hospital in Kunde, Nepal, Medical Clinics in Big Sky, Montana, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, various locations throughout Uath. Certifications: Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trama Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Patient Oriented Research Certification. Emily is conversational in Spanish, and is an avid skier, hiker, mountaineer and climber. She also enjoy cycling and triathlons.
