Described as the “Finest Ski Descent in California” and listed as one of the “50 Classic Backcountry Ski Descents in North America. A Mt. Shasta ski descent is considered a must do for any real backcountry skier. It offers the Advanced to Expert Alpine Skier a descent of over 7,000 vertical ft. from the summit down on a variety of routes including the “Classic” Avalanche Gulch Route.
Our two and three day Mt Shasta Ski Descent, on the avalanche gulch route, follow much the same itinerary as our two day Shasta Summit Climb and our three. On day one the group will tour up and establish a high camp where they will learn the necessary skills for climbing the mountain. Three day trips will use the second day do go into skill including ice axe arrest, crampon techniques, tour techniques and downhill tactics. All of the these skills and work will build into a summit attempt and ski descent on the final day of the climb. Though Avalanche Gulch is considered a classic it isn’t the only great route that Mt. Shasta has to offer. The West Face, the Hotlum Bolum Ridge, the Wintun Snowfield, and the East Face all offer unique challenges, amazing lines, and their own varying degree challenge. A carry over and ski down the North-side can be arrange as well for the backcountry adventurer who are in excellent condition and desire an exceptional ski adventure!
