A condensed 3-day version of our 5 Day Mt. Shasta Ice and Snow Expedition Course with emphasis on the glacier skills needed to climb the Northwest Volcanoes such as Mt. Rainier, Mt. Hood or Mt. Jefferson. We base camp at the base of the Hotlum Glacier. Each day we venture to the ice falls and seracs of the lower Hotlum Glacier where spending two days teaching roped team travel, team self arrest, crampon technique, technical ice climbing (front pointing); use and placement of anchors in snow and ice (pickets, bollards, flukes, ice screws), crevasse self-rescue, crevasse rescue systems ( ‘C’ and ‘Z’ pulley systems), ascending fixed lines, and glacier route finding.
