SWS Mountain Guides Adventure’s explores the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, a mountain range across a northern stretch of Africa extending about 2,400 km (1,500 miles) through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. As mountaineer’s we are always drawn to the highest peak in every country we visit for Morocco that peak is Jbel Toubkal, with an elevation of 4,167 meters (13,671 ft) in southwestern Morocco. We offer this as an optional climb while trek in the High Atlas Mountains. Morocco is the land that shares the Sahara desert with the mountains of the High Atlas and is positively packed to the brim with an exciting mix of Arabian culture and high adventure. The Atlas ranges separate the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines from the Sahara Desert. The population of the Atlas Mountains is mainly Berber Tribes in Morocco and Kabyles in Algeria. The mountains are or were home to a number of plant and animal species unique in Africa (more like those of Europe) many of them are endangered. We will trek through these ancient mountains and after climbing (optional) to the summit of Jebel Toubkal. We will spend a couple days relaxing and exploring the markets and sights of Marrakech and Fes before returning home to the U.S. For a unique adventure in North Africa, filled with trekking, climbing, and exploring this unique country at the crossroads of the desert and the sea.
