Our intermediate Winter Mountaineering focuses on offering instruction to bring your winter back country skills to the next level. To safely be able to climb, ski tour, or snowshoe in the back country during the winter months and avoid the hazards. Designed to develop your navigation skills via map, compass, GPS and blending those skills with hazard evaluation, avalanche detection, route analysis, as well as weather evaluation giving you a comprehensive ability to make sound judgments in the Winter environment. In addition we will also develop additional technical skills in rope handling, snow anchor placements, plus a review of the fundamentals of ice axe self- arrest and crampon use. This course culminates with an attempt of Alta Peak in Sequoia National Park or Scott Mountain in the Mt. Shasta Area. For those climbers, skiers, snowshoer’s who want more in depth winter skills training in the back country or those who need to work on their intermediate skills before tackling more ambitious winter climbing, ski/snowboarding adventures.

SWS Mountain Guides is offering a second location our Intermediate Winter Mountaineering Course in the Mt. Shasta area,out of Castle Lake trail head, in the mountains just west of our Mt. Shasta Office, CA. We will be climbing a local peak, Scott Mountain with spectacular views of Mt. Shasta to the East as the culmination of this winter course!
