Winter Mountaineering offers unique challenges and rewards that can found in few other places in the world. Mt. Shasta offers the perfect training ground for intermediate to advanced climbers wanting to expand their experience in the winter environment. On this course you will learn and practice the skills needed to climb “big mountains” all over the world. The conditions during the winter months on Mt. Shasta will give you the experience you need to climbing those bigger and higher peaks such as Pico del Orizaba in Mexico or the peaks of the Andes or those winter ascents in in the Rockies, Cascades, or Sierra Nevada.
Instruction includes: Rope team travel, Snow protection placement, high camp establishment, avalanche hazard evaluation, route finding and snowshoeing skills and much more. Review and perfect ice axe arrest and crampon skills. Expand your climbing into the winter season! This course culminates with an attempt of Mt. Shasta via Casaval Ridge or Sargents Ridge

Experience Level: Experienced climbers with basic ice ax and crampon experience. Basic winter climbing or snow camping experience highly recommended.
